Constitution Day-Recognized at Assembly One of our many mandates, is that on September 18th of every year we must educate the students on the Constitution of the United States. This was the day in history that our founding fathers signed the United States Constitution after many months of debate and compromising. This morning we met in the gym for a lesson on the Great Compromise. The compromise is what established our congressional two house system. Students learned that the large states wanted representation based on population and the small states wanted representation based on everyone getting equal representation. Therefore we have senators and representatives. This is the year for the Census. That census is directly linked to the Constitution because it determines the number of representatives in Congress for a state. It also draws the lines of a Congressional district. The children were made aware of the importance of this information. Hopefully as parents we due our civic duty in completing our census information. It does take time but it is important to maintaining the purposes set forth by our Constitution in having representation based on two factors.
